– Sen. Kristen Gillibrand (via think-progress)
Of course not, and you know what, we wouldn’t even be discussing male contraception/and sexual health issues, because women would be more concerned with what actually needed to be done in terms of jobs/economy etc.

Watch and learn, Ron Paul acolytes, as Lawrence O’Donnell takes Ron Paul to task over his very non-libertarian position on something as personal as contraception and sex. See him, for once, as the fake he really is.

Wonklife: Romney is using the programs the poor... →
Cutting subsidies from Amtrak and Planned Parenthood is the equivalent of President Obama promising to close loopholes for corporate jet owners. It’s red meat for the base, but a rounding error in context of the budget.
Romney’s real savings come in the next section. He’ll “send Medicaid back…
Is anyone surprised at this? If you are, you’re living in a fool’s paradise.

– Rick Santorum - GOP Presidential candidate
Who is going to ask Santorum to back up his claim? How can he brazenly relay this on a national news channel without the stats/charts to back up his “so called” fact?

The Obama Justice Department has concluded that legislation banning same-sex couples from receiving military and veterans benefits violates the equal protection component of the Fifth Amendment and will no longer defend the statute in court, Attorney General Eric Holder wrote in a letter to Congressional leaders on Friday.

1000 posts.
How did that happen? I started this tumblr in July of 2011 with the idea that this would be a place where I could jot my thoughts and capture pictures and ideas that appealed to me. It’s still hard for me to believe that I have wonderful people who think what I post is interesting, and think it enough to follow me.
Thank you. I am so appreciative.

The contraception "compromise"
Steve Benen writes: Word leaked early this morning that the White House was poised to unveil a “compromise” on contraception coverage, and on a conference call at 10:30, two senior administration officials sketched out what they described as a “common-sense solution.”
The new policy effectively finds a work-around to address the concerns raised by Catholic Bishops:...

So the Violence Against Women Act is up for renewal this year, and surprise of all surprises … not a single Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee voted to reauthorize the act. Not a single one.
Why? Well, the editorial in the New York Times puts it this way:

Seconded. No idea why any woman would vote Republican.

Did Komen really reverse it's decision?
Greg Sargent reports - ” just got off the phone with a Komen board member, and he confirmed that the announcement does not mean that Planned Parenthood is guaranteed future grants — a demand he said would be “unfair” to impose on Komen. He also said the job of the group’s controversial director, Nancy Brinker, is safe, as far as the board is concerned.”

Fascinating Breakthrough on Alzheimer's Research
From The New York Times:
Alzheimer’s disease seems to spread like an infection from brain cell to brain cell, two new studies in mice have found. But instead of viruses or bacteria, what is being spread is a distorted protein known as tau.
…
Alzheimer’s researchers have long known that dying, tau-filled cells first emerge in a small area of the brain where memories are made and stored....

From NPR
After days of controversy, the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation has said it will continue funding for Planned Parenthood.
Earlier this week, the foundation moved to discontinue funding of breast cancer screening by Planned Parenthood. The Associated Press reported the change came because of a new Komen policy forbidding grants to organizations under official investigation.
